Political scientist: “Dialogue is the only option”
Given the internal and external challenges, we can conclude that there is no alternative to a straightforward dialogue between the authorities and opposition, political scientist Ruben Mehrabyan said on Wednesday.
"All other scenarios are harmful and even disastrous for Armenia since the country has neither political, economic, human resources nor time," he stressed.
The political scientist says the authorities are simply stalling for time and delaying the dialogue whereas the opposition should do its best to start the talks.
"By dragging out the process, the authorities are preparing for the next elections. Meanwhile, the opposition argues that there is no time to wait for regular elections and calls for snap elections," the political scientist said adding that early elections possible and desirable in Armenia.
Asked whether the authorities will agree to hold snap elections, Mehrabyan, "I feel the potential pressure on them."
As for the alleged deal between the authorities and opposition, Mehrabyan dismissed the rumors saying they overtly exchange their views.
