“One’s death presupposes the other’s collapse”
The only way to surmount the grave socio-economic situation in Armenia is to establish a system of democratic socialism in the country, participants of a forum entitled "Prospects of Democratic Socialism in Armenia" announced on Saturday.
The event brought together representatives of political parties and NGOs, among them Heritage Party MP Armen Martirosyan, Democratic Party (HDK) leader Aram G. Sargsyan, member of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHK) Vahan Shirkhanyan, leader of the National Democratic Union (AZhM) Vazgen Manukyan, ARF-Dashnaktsutyun members Hrayr Karapetyan and Artsvik Minasyan and many others.
In his opening remarks, Aram Sargsyan dwelt on Armenia's "sad economic situation" specifying the key issues which require immediate solution. He underlined the trinity of shadow economy, monopoly and oligarchy as the fundamental basis of today's economy.
"Note that the death of the one supposes the collapse of the other," he said adding that the shade makes 70% in the economy.
The HDK leader says the reduction of shade will help curtail Armenia's foreign debt.
"Do you think that the authorities are ashamed of their disability? They are using these blessings and they cannot go against their interests," said Sargsyan.
SDHK member Vahan Shirkhanyan referred to the peculiarities of liberal market of post-Soviet Armenia.
"The "benefactor" forced tens of thousands of people to beg in the street. 40000-50000 people became poverty-stricken beggars and migrants to feed every bourgeois left to us by Robert Kocharyan," he said adding that competition has turned into monopoly hinders economic growth.
