“My goal is to return my son’s body to Armenia”
June 29 is marked in Armenia as Commemoration Day of Missing Soldiers.
A delegation of the Defense Ministry headed by Minister Seyran Ohanyan today visited Yerablur Pantheon toto commemorate missing soldiers of the Artsakh war. Relatives of the missing soldiers were also in Yerablur.
Samara Grigoryan received the last message from her 16-year-old son in 1992. For 18 years, Grigoryan waited for the return of her beloved son who was fighting for Artsakh's liberation until in 2010 she recognized his body in a video portraying a battle near Leninavan village.
"My primary goal is to return his body to Armenia," said the desperate mother.
Chairwoman of the committee in charge of the missing soldiers' issues, Rima Arakelyan, says they are cooperating with international human rights organizations to find the traces of the missing.
"Recently we were able to return a resident of Haghartsin village in Tavush Marz who had been held hostage in Azerbaijan," Arakelyan said adding that Azerbaijan frequently demonstrates non-constructive attitude on the issue of missing persons," she said.
Later in the day, Minister Ohanyan attended a commemorative event hosted by Chamber Music House. Addressing to the families of missing soldiers, the Minister assured that the committee in charge of the missing soldiers' issues is consistently working to find the soldiers and arrange their return to homeland.
About 400 freedom fighters are considered missing after the Artsakh war, with some remaining in captivity in Azerbaijan.
