Did Sargsyan reach early agreement with Cavusoglu?
Heritage Party MP, member of Armenia's delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Zaruhi Postanjyan, is amused at allegations that she agreed her question with Serzh Sargsyan before raising it at the PACE summer session.
In Strasbourg, Postanjyan proposed Serzh Sargsyan to resign office and hold early elections in Armenia. The Armenian leader said in response that he wasn't preparing for early elections since he did not see a need for them and the RA Constitution does not allow for early elections to be held so easily.
"I do not consider Serzh Sargsyan to be a legitimate president. Nor do I consider Armenia to be a democratic country. Everyone in Strasbourg is aware of the grave situation in Armenia and the ten victims [of the March 1, 2008 post-election clashes]. And if after all these he [Serzh Sargsyan] continues to hold power, it means he is a despot," Postanjyan told a news conference on Wednesday.
"Most likely, Serzh Sargsyan had reached an agreement with Cavusoglu (PACE President of Turkish origin) since neither Azerbaijani nor Turkish delegates addressed questions to Sargsyan," she said.
The Heritage Party MP also commented on the statement of her colleague Armen Rustamyan who said the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun hads never appealed to foreign powers to resolve domestic political issues.
"Armenia is a full member of the PACE, and we expect support from the structure. I would like to know why Rustamyan, who is an opposition representative, didn't ask a question to Sargsyan. Instead of blaming me, they had better think about Armenians of France who migrated in the past few years," said Postanjyan.
In her address at the PACE summer session, Postanjyan also raised the issue of embattled A1+ TV Company, highlighting the role of online media in the protection of freedom of speech.
To this end, Postanjyan has sent a letter to Armenian Parliament Speaker requesting him to explain the "ban" on YouTube for Armenian parliamentarians.
Postanjyan also said that PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Armenia John Prescott and Axel Fischer will visit Yerevan on July 20.
"After the visit, a report and draft resolution on Armenia will be prepared to be submitted at the fall session," she said.
