The format of the Karabakh talks remains in question after the Kazan meeting of Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents, Russian daily Komersant reports.

Citing a diplomatic source involved in the Kazan meeting, the newspaper writes that both parties came into a conflict which the mediators considered resolved long ago.

"They include both technical and essential issues, such as the determination of the Karabakh status. However, the problem is not in the differences but in the fact that the parties changed their position several times," Komersant writes.

According to the newspaper, Russian President is so disappointed at the outcome of the Kazan summit that he was ready to terminate his mediation mission.

"If Armenia and Azerbaijan fail to demonstrate willingness to resolve the problem in the near future, we'll consider the mission accomplished," reads the newspaper.

The source says that Medvedev actually put forward an ultimatum to the conflicting parties: the next trilateral meeting will take place only when the parties express willingness to sign a document on the Karabkakh conflict.
