Statement by the Hnchakyan Party

"The presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia are scheduled to meet in Kazan on June 24. Some circles of foreign politicians are making declarations that are troubling for the Hnchakyan Party. For the information of the foreign powers interested in the issue, we announce:

1. Any imposed decision for the Artsakh issue will lead to a war. Peace can't be established through deprivation of lands and deprivation of the people's opportunity to shape their future on their own land.

2. When speaking about mutual concessions, we should speak not only about the liberated regions, but the Azeri-occupied Shahumyan and other Armenian lands as well.

3. The return of refugees assumes actions from both sides. If the Azeri declare the return of their refugees, what about the hundreds of thousands of Armenians who left everything in Baku, Sumgait, Gandzak, Shahumyan, Getashen and Martunashen?

4. The installment of peacekeeping forces in Artsakh will only endanger our country's sovereignty and security. Only the Armed Forces of the two Armenian Republics may best defend Artsakh and Armenia.

5. Azerbaijan continues to make war threats and ignores the international community's calls. The Armenian authorities respond with calls for pacifism and tolerance, but that won't work anymore. In any case of aggression or assault, Armenia and Artsakh are ready to give the opponent an adequate response, after which Azerbaijan will continue to cause a ruckus about other "seized" territories for several decades.

A new generation is growing in Artsakh and Armenia, and that generation will never accept a policy based on concessions. These days we must leave aside interior political issues, unite and do everything possible to confront the bigger challenges.
