“Issues are in our center of attention”
A concert dedicated to World Refugee Day was held yesterday at Komitas Chamber Music Hall last evening. The concert was organized by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Armenia Office representatives and under the patronage of RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.
Before the concert, UN High Commissioner for Refugees representative Damtu Desaleyne gave a speech in which he highly appreciated the Armenian government's efforts for receiving refugees from Iraq and Azerbaijan. Edward Nalbandyan also gave an opening speech at the event.
"Taking the opportunity, I would like to thank you, Mr. Desaleyne, the previous and current employees of the office in Armenia for the large-scale efforts that have been implemented in Armenia since the first day of establishment in the country.
In the beginning, the efforts were primarily aimed at ensuring the vital needs of refugees who had emigrated from Azerbaijan due to the conflict between Karabakh and Azerbaijan, and issues connected to this are still in the center of our attention and on the agenda.
Over time, the direction for implementation of humanitarian programs in emergency situations ran parallel to close collaboration with the Armenian government through support for the development and strengthening of the legal and administrative spheres, as well as the creation of a system that would correspond to international standards for protection of refugees' rights. The Armenian people and government highly appreciate this contribution," said Nalbandyan.
