Unlike Armenia's ex-Foreign Minister [Vartan Oskanian], political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan does not expect any breakthrough in the Karabakh talks before the trilateral presidential meeting in Kazan.

In an interview with a local media outlet, Oskanian said, "Never have the sides said that they are ready to sign a document. I think that the Armenian President will have news to share with our people before his departure for Kazan."

"I do not want to comment on Oskanian's statement. This is an ordinary situation in which the mediators are attempting to pressurize the sides and force them to make statements. We have been witnessing the same situation before each meeting. There is nothing extraordinary to be surprised at. We have felt greater pressure on the sides," Iskandaryan told A1+.

The political scientist thinks that Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev will make verbal statements in Kazan.

"The Presidents are unlikely to sign a document. As soon as they sign a document, Aliyev will declare that Azerbaijan is ready to solve the Karabakh issue in a military way. Further, Azerbaijan will say that they have had a great victory and have advanced in the negotiations."

Iskandaryan agrees that if the sides began speaking about peace-keeping forces, it means they have reached an agreement on other important issues.
