Teen drug abuse growing in Armenia
"Many teens in Armenia go begging simply to satisfy their personal needs or to waste it in internet clubs," says Nelly Duryan, Head of the Police's 3rd Investigation Department (of Juvenile Affairs).
Currently there are 20 registered minor beggars and four minor prostitutes in the country. Frequently, parents are not aware of their children's whereabouts as children go begging during school hours. However, sometimes children, especially those who grow without father, earn money in this way.
The number of crimes committed by juveniles has decreased by 32 as compared to the same period of 2010. Instead, there has been an unexpected increase in drug abuse.
