Yerkir daily fined for slandering Armenian MP
Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash districts partly satisfied MP Tigran Arzakantsyan's lawsuit against "Yerkir" daily.
The court ruled on Wednesday that the newspaper is to pay 288 000 drams in damages, including 200 000 drams for moral damages, 80 000 drams for lawyers and another 8 000 for legal expenses.
Tigran Arzakantsyan sued Yerkir over what he viewed as insulting expressions in the newspaper against him, demanding the maximum compensation provided for such cases by law- 3 568 000 drams.
Arzakantsyan said he was offended by the newspaper words and phrases describing him as "stilyaga (the Russian for "style hunter"), "speaking the Kavar dialect [of Armenian]", and the like.
