Member of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), former political prisoner Vardges Gaspari reported to the police about a crime committed in downtown Yerevan on June 2.

Yesterday evening Gaspari was taken to the police department of Kentron district from the government building. The HAK activist was standing outside the building when police officers began elbowing and pushing demonstrators in an attempt to clear the way for the chief of the Armenian police, Lieutenant General Alik Sargsian.

"I was pushed aside and I screamed, "Hands off, ruffians!" he said.

At that moment a few policemen approached Gaspari and invited him to the police station.

"I said they could not take me to a police station without a writ but they paid no attention to my words," he continued.

"I refused to answer any question at the police station. Then they received a telephone call and set me free. Today I made a report on yesterday's incident as I was illegally detained and taken to a police station," said Gaspari.
