H. Abrahamyan: "Many peoplewant to become leaders"
"Armenian youth parliament may become not only a mouthpiece for the youth, but also a forge of staff for authorities and political forces," Armenian Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan said on June 1 in his address to youth parliamentarians.
"However, we must give up pompous speeches and act, as one cannot build a country with beautiful speeches," he added.
The Armenian National Assembly today hosed a mandate handing ceremony of the Armenian youth parliament. The latter was formed at the initiative of the parliament speaker and aims to serve as a consultative body at the parliamentary committee for science, education, culture, youth and sports issues.
"In this rapidly changing world it is important to find adequate answers to challenges of our time. This opens up great possibilities and forces each individual to demonstrate and use his abilities to the full. Youth parliament is an important mechanism to represent the interests of young people. This vital institute also shapes legal and political culture," Abrahamyan said adding that many wish to become leaders but few possess the required qualities and abilities.
"I shall be glad to see some of you in our parliament," said the Armenian parliament speaker.
The youth parliament today held its first sitting with the participation of NA leadership and heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations.
The youth parliament is comprised of 131 Armenian citizens.
