"This political spring differed from all others," Spokesman for the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Edward Sharmazanov told a press conference on Monday.

"Serzh Sargsyan's decisions ensure stable development for the country, which was highly assessed by Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan who expressed willingness to start a dialogue with the authorities," he said.

"We are convinced that the dialogue should not be disrupted. History has shown us that countries where political struggle is accompanied with dialogue and political correctness are crowned with success," the HHK spokesman stressed.

Regarding the necessity of snap elections as voiced by the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK), Sharmazanov said: "I see no prerequisites for snap elections. Snap elections are usually called when the country is in political crisis. This is not the case in our country."

The HHK spokesman says the amnesty was not an excuse by the authorities but manifestation of goodwill aimed at pardoning a great number of prisoners.
