Who will be the village head?
The electoral commission of the precinct of Aragatsotni province is currently recounting the votes. Aragats village head candidate Gagik Melkonyan is certain that he is going to become the new village head after the recount.
With 57 more votes, incumbent village head Gagik Poghosyan was re-elected head of the community.
According to residents of Aragats village, "the chair of their village head is not an ancestral kingdom and the incumbent village head is not Gadhafi's friend to rule as long as he wants."
The voters are not coming to grips with the results of the May 22 vote and gathered at the central square to defend candidate Gagik Melkonyan.
"Gagik Poghosyan was reelected through electoral fraud and threats. He has been heading the village for the past 13 years," one of the residents Mher Avetisyan said.
Village head hopeful Gagik Melkonyan reminded that the commission didn't work normally and that there were many police officers threatening voters at the polling stations.
"Poghosyan is backed by the President and the Prosecutor General," resident Artak Melkonyan added.
Some youth of the village also informed that even though they have been registered after their return from the army, most of their names are not on the voters' lists. However, to their surprise, the names of people who are living abroad and are no longer citizens of Armenia are on those lists.
The villagers didn't forget about their social issues either. They say the village imported 3 tons of barley fertilizer, but they didn't get anything.
"There was 43 million drams, but we don't know how that money was distributed," Rudik Baghdasaryan said with indignation.
The villagers moved from the center of the village to the village council building to meet with the village head, but the latter was not there. Village head candidate Gagik Melkonyan informed that they had wanted to meet with him yesterday, but Poghosyan had refused, saying there would be clashes.
"If he is the village head-elect, why is he afraid of meeting with the people?" asked Gagik Melkonyan.
