May 17 marked the start of the official visit of Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament Laslo Kover to Armenia.

The meetings in parliament began with private talks between Chairman of the RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan and Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament Laslo Kover. Hovik Abrahamyan attached importance to the strengthening of cooperation with Hungary in the political, economic, cultural and other realms. "Armenia attaches importance to European integration and it is one of the priorities of Armenia's foreign policy," the NA Chairman mentioned.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation and the warm reception, Laslo Kover mentioned that this was his first official visit to Armenia as Hungary's parliamentary speaker and expressed certainty that the visit would contribute not only to the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, but the development of interstate relations as well. He also considered the development of bilateral ties in different directions as necessary.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of bilateral interest, attached importance to the deepening of cooperation within international organizations, the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of bilateral ties and touched upon regional issues.

In this context, NA Chairman Hovik Abrahamyan emphasized that conflicts should be solved through peaceful negotiations and that it is impossible to resolve conflicts through war in the 21st century. Agreeing with Hovik Abrahamyan, Laslo Kover expressed hope that all regional issues would be solved through peaceful negotiations with the exclusion of military intervention.

The sides shared the view that the OSCE Minsk Group should be the only format for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution.
