"Heritage" Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan today paid a visit to "Nubarashen" Penitentiary to see her brother Tigran Postanjyan. The latter declared a hunger strike on May 11. The MP told "A1+" that she was informed of her brother's hunger strike just two days ago.

Zaruhi Postanjyan was granted the right to visit her brother as a National Assembly MP.

Head of the "Heritage" faction Stepan Safaryan yesterday appealed to the RA Ombudsman, the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police to inform them: "Tigran Postanjyan, who has been under arrest for 86 days, has declared a hunger strike against the inhumane and humiliating actions at the penitentiary".

Head of the Public Relations Division of the Penitentiary Department at the RA Ministry of Justice Arsen Babayan told "A1+" that according to the law and rules and regulations, the administration of "Nubarashen" Penitentiary has taken all necessary measures, including ongoing medical supervision."

As far as Tigran Postanjyan's demands are concerned, according to Babayan, most of them are legitimate and some are impossible to fulfill due to strictly objective reasons.

"Tigran Postanjyan demands walks whenever he wants, but the process and duration of walks are established by the penitentiary's rules and regulations. Postanjyan also demands to use the bathroom whenever appropriate, but according to rules and regulations, prisoners may use the bathroom at least once every seven days," said Arsen Babayan.

"What is also troubling is the fact that the prisoner has already managed to make his cellmates complain," added Arsen Babayan.

Let us mention that Tigran Postanjyan is charged with receiving illegal payment from a public servant who wasn't an official.
