S. Sargsyan: “Events can unfold in two scenarios”
Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan does not preclude resumption of hostilities in the conflict zone. "I find it possible as I can not understand why Azerbaijan is delaying the negotiation process," Sargsyan said in an interview with "Moskovskiye Novosti."
"This is a wrong approach, because the events could unfold in two scenarios. On the one hand, we may witness a total war with the subsequent occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh which is possible only in case of total destruction of the Karabakh people. On the other hand, Azerbaijan may lose the war and its new territories. And then Azerbaijan will again complain about the loss of other 5, 6 or more territories. And what will come next? A new ceasefire agreement, violations of truce, a new war ... All these scenarios are hopeless," said Sargsyan.
"The people of Nagorno-Karabakh should be given a chance to determine their fate and live in their historic country in safety," said the Armenian President.
Regarding the Armenian-Turkish peace deal, Sargsyan said, "Only when Turkey recognizes the Armenian Genocide, we can speak about reconciliation otherwise rapprochement is impossible."
