Ombudsman's Office seeks financial independence
Since the Ombudsman's Office is an independent body, it should not depend on the Armenian government, RA Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan said on Friday during a Yerevan-hosted event dedicated to the completion of EU Twinning program which aims to assist the Armenian Ombudsman's Office.
Ten days ago, Karen Andreasyan sent a letter to the government requesting to provide the financial independence of the Ombudsman's Office.
The EU Twinning program lasted for 19 months and provided assistance in the legislative field, organized training for the Office staff and helped increase public awareness. Head of the EU delegation to Armenia Raul de Luzenberger noted in his speech that the cooperation with the Armenian Ombudsman's Office will continue in the future.
