Ombudsman not going to file written request
Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan is not going to ask for the release of political prisoners Sasun Mikayelyan and Nikol Pashinyan in written form.
Talking to A1+ Andreasyan said that if he ever files a written request he will ask to pardon everyone and not one or two individuals.
"If I submit a request, it will misrepresent my role." he said.
The human rights defender refrained from commenting on "those who were sent to prison after the deadly clashes of March 1."
"The Armenian National Congress and authorities seem to have found some common ground on the issue," said Mr. Andreasyan.
With regard to his intention to act as a mediator between the authorities and opposition, the ombudsman said he has not received a written response, but the public reaction and recent developments made the process meaningless.
At this point, I think the issue is frozen and there is not need for mediation," he said.
As reported earlier the authorities and opposition harshly criticized the ombudsman's proposal to act as a mediator between them.
