The executive secretary of the opposition Armenia National Congress (HAK), Vahagn Hayotsyan, has submitted an application with the Yerevan Municipality to hold a rally in Yerevan's Liberty Square on May 31.

By law, the Mayor's Office is to answer the HAK within 72 hours.

The opposition alliance has been prohibited from holding rallies in Liberty Square following the March 2008 tragic events. However, the municipal authorities allowed the HAK to hold a rally in the square on April 28, thus meeting one of the opposition's three demands.

Earlier in the month, HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan stressed that the opposition would start a dialogue with authorities if they fulfilled the opposition's demands - release the political prisoner, sanction opposition's rallies in the Liberty Square and renew the probe into the March 2008 clashes.
