Vanush Khanamiryan: Honorable Guest
The premiere of the New York Dance Academy after Vanush Khanamiryan was held at the Jane Rimsky Theater in New York. The concert part of the evening was devoted to legendary Armenian dancer, RA People's Artist and the concert's honorable guest Vanush Khanamiryan.
The New York Dance Academy after Vanush Khanamiryan was founded in 2009 by soloist of the State Dance Ensemble of Armenia Tovmas Harutyunyan and has over 30 dancers ranging from the ages of 6 to 14.
Tovmas Harutyunyan and his family have been living in New York since 1993. Taking into account the master's merit in Armenian ballet and folk dance, Harutyunyan decided to establish a children's dance group and name it after Vanush Khanamiryan.
"It is rare to see any group named after a person in his living years. I am lucky to have the academy named after me. When I was informed, I was touched. I am very pleased to see children at the academy. The group will develop and will compete with professional dance groups,"said Vanush Khanamiryan.
There to congratulate V. Khanamiryan and the dancers were well-known Armenian artists of New York, including Rubik Vardanyan (shvi), Hasmik Meykhanejyan (vocal), Samvel Nersisyan (trumpet) and Armine Vardanyan (piano). The heads and members of Armenian dance groups pfrom Armenia, California and Canada had sent their congratulatory messages.
The attendees warmly received 11-year old Nikols Arakelyan who recited P. Sevak's poem "Mother's Hands" and former actress of G. Sundukyan Theater Karin Kocharyan gave a brilliant presentation of the concert program.
