Europe Day celebrated on May 9
May 9 is marked worldwide as Europe Day. In Europe, Europe Day is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. There are two separate designations of Europe Day: 5 May for the Council of Europe, and 9 May for the European Union (EU).
The first step towards the establishment of the European Union (EU) was made on this day in 1950 in Paris, when French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman presented the historical declaration which called for France, Germany and other European countries to put an end to their rivalry and to foster unity among Europeans. The day is also known as Schuman Day.
The holiday is celebrated by EU member states.
Armenia has been marking Europe Day for five years now. On the occasion of Europe Day, the European Union Delegation to Armenia announces an open youth video competition on the theme "My Europe in 120 Seconds". The contest is aimed at revealing how different young people perceive Europe and how they creatively express their thoughts and feelings about EU-Armenia cooperation. The winner will receive an Apple iPad.
The contest participants should prepare a short video (up to 2 minutes) and upload it on YouTube. The video that gets the maximum votes (likes) in YouTube and Facebook will become the winner.
The results of the contest will be summed up on May 21 in Lovers' Park in Yerevan.
