The Armenian people defeated in the war but never abused the victory to write the history of their country, the Minister of Education and Science of Armenia said during a conference entitled "History and Culture: against Falsehood and Encroachment."

"It is ludicrous that the party which sustained a defeat in the war is trying to rewrite the history. This is nonsense and impudence which should be given an adequate response," said Armen Ashotyan.

Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan stressed that Armenians should protect themselves, their heritage and culture.

"This is an issue of national security which does not recognize individual interests," she said.

Gegham Harutyunyan, the organizer of the conference and President of the Public Council under the Defense Ministry, underlined Azerbaijan's propaganda war as one of the dangers menacing Armenia.

"If our neighbours are constrained in their actions on the frontline, they give free rein to their anti-Armenian hysteria in the field of propaganda," said Harutyunyan.

"During the discussions we will develop a strategy and a set of measures for the struggle against the propaganda machine," said Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan.

During the conference, Minister Ohanyan awarded Radik Martirosyan, President of the National Academy of Sciences, with Garegin Nzhdeh medal.
