Ombudsman to accept applications on March 2008 events
Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan today made a statement saying that the Ombudsman's Office is ready to accept applications on the March 1, 2008 events.
"Taking into consideration the current political dialogue between the authorities and opposition,
- believing that the dialogue will lead to the protection of violated rights of a number of citizens who participated in the deadly clashes of March 1, 2008,
-confirming that the human rights defender is willing to intervene in political process provided there is an urgent need to protect human rights,
-agreeing with the claims of the authorities and opposition that the Ombudsman's mediation is inexpedient for the time being,
-reiterating my willingness to act as a mediator between the state and different groups of society, in support of the protection of human rights,
-addressing especially those citizens who find that their rights violated in the aftermath of March 2008 events have not been reinstated
I declare that the Ombudsman's Office will continue to monitor the situation and is ready to accept individual applications and complaints on this and other matters," the Ombudsman said in a statement.
