Hasmik Poghosyan, wife of prisoner, French-Armenian freedom fighter Sargis Hatspanyan, neither understands nor has a notion of the real reasons behind the Armenian authorities' callous position on her husband.

"There is no sense in premature release or, much less amnesty since his sentencing ends in early June," Hasmik Poghosyan told "A1+",

According to her, Hatspanyan is no different from the other political prisoners with his patriotic acts.

"He was simply an active participant in the rallies," said Poghosyan.

On 4 November 2008, through "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily newspaper Sargis Hatspanyan declared that there was an assassination attempt against Serzh Sargsyan in progress.

Hatspanyan was arrested on 8 November and on 9 April 2009, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison under the charge of "false perfidy".
