“Our people’s demand is clear”
Address by RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on the Day of Remembrance of the victims of the Armenian Genocide
"Fellow compatriots,
Today marks the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The purpose of the horrible crime that the Ottoman Turks planned and perpetrated was to eliminate all Armenians and it led to the deprivation of the homeland, as well as the extermination of the physical, historical, spiritual and cultural presence in our native land.
Since then, the Armenian Genocide has become an episode in Armenian and world history that is impossible to obliterate from diplomatic documents and leave out of the chronology of the 20th century, even from the memory of those whose ancestors perpetrated the genocide.
Our people's demand is clear-there must be a legal, political and moral evaluation of the Armenian Genocide.
I express words of gratitude to those states and individuals who are standing by Armenians' side in the struggle for historical justice, genocide prevention and condemnation. Commemorating the innocent martyrs of the Great Genocide, let us look toward the future for the sake of our statehood and a better tomorrow for our nation.
