“Çavuşoğlu is not PACE President, he is Turk”
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu made a disgraceful step, Naira Zohrabyan, member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, told reporters on April 18.
Note that during the PACE spring session, PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu deprived the Armenian delegates an opportunity to address their questions to Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan. The Armenian delegates registered for questions but Çavuşoğlu decided to change the order of priority 40 minutes before the meeting, putting the Armenian delegates at the bottom of the list. Later the PACE Secretariat told the Armenian delegates that Çavuşoğlu was empowered to change the sequence by the PACE regulations.
"We have not received such a treatment in PACE sessions. Çavuşoğlu ensured favorable conditions for the Turkish Premier and saved him from answering undesirable questions. Çavuşoğlu proved again that he is a Turkish politician, rather than the president of PACE who is guided by European standards," Naira Zohrabyan told journalists on April 18.
Despite artificial impediments, Naira Zohrabyan managed to approach the Turkish Prime Minister in Strasbourg and hand him an album containing photographs of children - victims of the Armenian Genocide. She met the Turkish Premier in the corridor and said all that she wanted to his face. Zohrabyan showed the same album to Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.Besides, she gave Davutoğlu a documentary about the vandalism against Armenians in the beginning of 21st century.
