“We should respond adequately to Turkish-Azerbaijani relations”
Armenian parliamentarians retained from speaking about the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) during today's parliamentary briefing, at the same time highlighting the role of the session in view of Armenian-Turkish relations.
"We had better wait for the arrival of Armenian delegates to give an adequate assessment to their steps," said Orinats Yerkir (OYK) faction leader Heghine Bisharyan.
The leader of the Republican faction refused to comment on the statements of Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Erdogan.
"I am not going to answer that awkward question. My position on the matter is evident," said Galust Sahakyan.
"The Armenian delegation, specifically my colleague and teammate Naira Zohrabyan, gave an adequate response to Turkish delegates during the session," said Aram Safaryan, secretary of Prosperous Armenia (BHK) parliamentary group.
Speaking about the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem the BHK representative said, "The closer parties are to the settlement of Karabakh conflict, the harder Turkey and Azerbaijan will try to pressurize Armenia. Therefore, we should take actions to oppose to the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem."
Note that during the PACE spring session, PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu deprived the Armenian delegates an opportunity to address their questions to Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan. Despite artificial impediments, Armenian parliament member Naira Zohrabyan managed to approach the Turkish Prime Minister and hand him an album containing photographs of children - victims of the Armenian Genocide. Erdogan glanced at the album and stated that if the Armenian side continues to insist on its position, Turkey will also find some photos to show. Further, Turkish Prime Minister's bodyguards accompanied Erdogan out of the hall, shoving Armenian delegation members aside.
During the parliamentary briefing the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun referred to the coalition-proposed amendments to the RA Electoral Code. ARF-D MP Artyusha Shahbazyan said that the party highlights the publication of electoral rolls immediately after the elections.
"If the National Assembly ignores our proposals we shall vote against the bill," said Shahbazyan.
