The hearing into a property case against former MP Sasun Mikaelyan today resumed in the "Hospital for Convicts" penitentiary institution with the participation of Sasun Mikaelyan.

During the previous court sitting Judge Nune Poghosyan granted the petition of Lawyer Vahe Hovsepyan to provide Mikaelyan's presence at the trial.

Mikaelyan is appealing the government decision whereby his lands in Artavaz community of Kotayk Marz were recognized as the "exclusive priority" and had to be alienated. An Arab sheikh seeks to build a water bottling blant in the area, while Mikaelyan wants to build a hydroelectric power station.

At today's hearing the plaintiff and the defendant brought a number of arguments relating to the investigation of the case.

In June, 2009, Mikaelyan was sentenced in June to eight years in prison for his alleged role in the March 2008 clashes in Yerevan between security forces and protesters.

He was also convicted of illegal arms possession, a charge that disqualified him from a general amnesty.
