Real Madrid smashes Tottenham 4-0
Real Madrid and Schalke 04 have reached Champions League semifinal after beating their rivals in quarterfinals.
Real Madrid smashed Tottenham 4-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on April 5.
Real Madrid's Togolese forward Emmanuel Adebayor opened the score after just four minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to guide a header past goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and through the legs of Luka Modric on the line.
Tottenham was left with 10 men from the 15th minute when Peter Crouch earned a second booking for a rash tackle.
Adebayor added Madrid's second by guiding Marcelo's cross home in the 57th minute before late goals from Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo ensured a comfortable advantage ahead of next week's return leg at White Hart Lane.
Holders Inter Milan collapsed to a stunning 5-2 home defeat by Schalke 04 in their Champions League quarter-final first leg at the San Siro on Tuesday.
Inter led twice in the first half, but found the scores levelled on both occasions. Dejan Stankovic opened the scoring in just 25 seconds with a breath-taking volley from the centre circle. However, Joel Matip levelled before Diego Milito restored Inter's lead. The lead was cancelled out when Edu equalized to send the teams in at half time with the score at 2-2.
But the Germans struck back through Joel Matip and, although Diego Milito briefly restored Inter's lead. Raul, Andrea Ranocchia's own goal and Edu all added three more against Schalke's name as Christian Chivu picked up a red card, capping off a disastrous night for last season's treble winners.
