Hunger strike is a form of struggle, but it is not the main method of struggle, deputy chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Razmik Zohrabyan said on April 1.

The HHK representative, who had declared hunger strikes in Soviet prisons and demanded "an independent Armenia," says hunger strike is not the main tool of political struggle.

"I would not advise anyone to restore to the method. I am glad that Raffi decided to stop his hunger strike," Zohrabyan said commenting on Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian's protest fast which ended in March 30.

"Each force has its own methods of political struggle which should by no means lead to a collision," he said dismissing the reports that the hunger-strike was planned by the authorities.

Speaking about the repetition of similar protests in Liberty Square, Razmik Zohrabyan said, "They need not stage protests in the square, they can do it at their homes. Do they seek to affect public feelings? Can't they think of other methods?"

"Liberty square is not a forbidden fruit and it is open to anybody. The most important is to exclude collisions," he said hinting at the tragic clashes of March 1, 2008.

Asked who is to be punished for the post-election clashes of March 1, 2008, Razmik Zohrabyan said, "I blame both the authorities and the opposition. Both sides made mistakes which need to be corrected today."
