Azerbaijan's pledges to bomb the planes flying from Yerevan to Stepanakert and vice versa serve as grounds for Serzh Sargsyan's announcement today in which he said:

"Those declarations have always been made by terrorist organizations, but they have never been made by a government. What does it mean that a government will eliminate civil aircraft? There is no need to comment on this declaration. I am going to be one of the first passengers of the first flight."

Serzh Sargsyan made this announcement during a joint press conference with the President of Switzerland. Although Serzh Sargsyan expected that Micheline Calmy-Rey would agree with him, Calmy-Rey avoided giving an answer and underlined that she was neutral. She mentioned that she had met Ilham Aliyev and the sides had discussed the meeting with Serzh Sargsyan.

"We are following up on the events and the processes related to Nagorno-Karabakh in general. The conflict is within the framework of the Minsk Group and Switzerland is not an active member."

Serzh Sargsyan today assured that he had no doubt that there would be flights from Yerevan to Stepanakert and vice versa.

Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Serzh Sargsyan also said he would like to believe that Azerbaijan would finally realize that there is no alternative to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The presidents of Armenia and Switzerland also touched upon Armenian-Turkish relations. Let us remind that Micheline Calmy-Rey was Switzerland's foreign minister during the signing of the Turkey-Armenia Protocols in Zurich.

Serzh Sargsyan underlined that he regretted to see that the Turkey-Armenia Protocols remained on paper because of Turkey, while Calmy-Rey assured that Switzerland is not turning a cheek to the relations between Armenia and Turkey. According to Calmy-Rey, Switzerland wishes to continue the process of ratification of the Protocols and is prepared to do everything possible to encourage the sides.

During her first official visit to Armenia, today Micheline Calmy-Rey will visit Echmiadzin and will meet with His Holiness Karekin II. Calmy-Rey will also participate in the opening of the Swiss Embassy in Armenia, after which she will visit the "KAZA" Swiss Foundation in Gyumri.
