On February 23, 2011, RA Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan presented a petition to the Chief of RA Police Alik Sargsyan on the expediency of Tamamyan's holding office. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Hovhannes Tamamyan failed to perform his duties and undertake necessary measures to reveal the crime which led to the distortion and fraud of the significant circumstances of the investigation of the criminal case as well as to the distortion of the actions taken by the participants of the crime.

Asked how the police happened to agree to the erection of a tent, Nerses Nazaryan said that they decided to dissuade Hovannisian against putting up a tent at the square.

"We did not want to use force against Hovannisian," said Nazaryan.

Yesterday, a group of NGO workers and members of public erected a tent at Liberty Square for Raffi Hovannisian to protect him from rain and wind.

For a few days Hovannisian's supporters were trying to put up a tent at the square, but their steps were met with resistance by police officers.

"We banned erection of a tent as we did not want it to become a custom in Armenia," said Nazaryan.
