“The incident showed the authorities’ true face”
It is already six days Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian has been staging a hunger strike at Liberty Square.
In the afternoon Hovannisian was visited by his teammates and ordinary citizens who came to express support for the Heritage leader.
Hovannisian sees nothing extraordinary in his decision to declare "freedom fast."
"Today, most of our people go hungry. With the hunger strike, I intended to raise an alarm and call the attention of public and authorities to the current state of emergency. Many criticized the move labeling it as a PR action ahead of the parliamentary elections. During the past six days I felt the support of thousands of kind and literate people," said Hovannisian.
Speaking about yesterday's incident at the square which resulted in police tearing and breaking a canopy intended for him, Hovannisian said, "I did not ask for a tent or a canopy. But the incident unveiled the authorities' attitude towards ordinary citizens."
"I have the impression that our citizens need to ask for Serzh Sargsyan's permission to erect a tent or an awning. If one dares to move a single pole at the square, policeman appear from nowhere and put a ban. The action showed the authorities' true face," said Heritage MP Anahit Bakhshyan.
The number of Hovannisian's supporters has increasing totaling 2100.
