The Board of Trustees of "People's Television Foundation," established in October 2010 with a primary goal to assist the embattled TV Company "A1+," resumes fundraising, Foundation members told a press conference on March 14.

In December 2010, A1+ lost in yet another broadcasting tender announced by the state regulator. The competition was the first to be held in Armenia in more than two years after the government controversially suspended the licensing process in 2008 citing the need to speed up the country's transition to mandatory digital broadcasting.

The Board of Trustees today presented the action plan of "People's TV" to be aired by A1+ Company. Ex-Deputy Minister of Culture Karine Khudikyan said that the program will involve the results of different discussions, cultural and educational projects.
The founder of "A1+", "Meltex" LLC, Msrop Movsesyan, presented three versions of broadcasting, which, according to Mr. Movsesyan, are rather complicated and expensive. The first version implies organization of digital, Internet and satellite broadcast simultaneously.

"As you know we have brought an action against the National Commission on Television and Radio. We want to put an end to this farce. The first option which combines digital, Internet and satellite broadcasting is connected with large finances and technical possibilities," said Mesrop Movsesyan adding that over 1 350 000 drams are required to implement the program.

The updated version of the Internet broadcasting will be available via satellite for Armenian, European and U.S. viewers.

"It also requires great finances and serious investments. If our plans work, we intend to launch the broadcast within six months."" noted Mr. Movsesyan. "

The previous fundraiser aimed to assist A1+'s bid in license tenders with the fund's representatives highlighting the number of donors rather than the size of donations. To date, the Foundation has raised over AMD 30 000, $ 5410 and €110.

President of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan noted that they seek to have independent television in the country, capable of meeting public demands.

The Board of Trustees announced that the purpose of the announced fundraising is to create and broadcast non-profit programs of public significance on "People's TV" and called everybody to join their move.
