People’s TV Trust urges to continue support for People’s TV
The Board of Trustees of "People's Television Foundation" (hereinafter People's TV Trust) has issued a statement reconfirming its readiness to create and broadcast non-profit programs of public significance on a "people's TV."
People's TV Trust is seeking for supporters, who long to have independent television in the country, capable of meeting public demands.
People's TV Trust regrets that the wish of thousands to Armenians to see A1+ back on the air did not come true.
The broadcast licensing contests announced by the state regulator in December 2010 did not serve their primary goal. They failed to improve the quality of television and further deepened the existing problems. We find it expedient to point out to the disastrous state of our television, law-quality programs, distorted information, lack of professionalism and sincere self-assessment.
We emphasize the role of free and independent media as an important factor in a democratic state. In the given situation, the People's TV Trust and A1+ Company are attempting to fill the gap of the information field with alternative (satellite or Internet) broadcasting, allowing for diversity, operationability and impartiality.
People's TV Trust will soon present a comprehensive program offering technological solutions. The Board of Trustees expects financial and moral assistance of specialists and public circles and urges everyone to assist in the fundraising and make their proposals on the program.
People's TV Trust pledges to do its best to make the "People's TV" compliant with public demands," reads the statement.
A1+ TV Company controversially lost its broadcasting license in 2002 and has not been granted another license in about dozen license tenders announced since then.
In December 2010, the company lost in one of the ongoing 18 contests for digital broadcasting licenses, 16 of which feature only one bidder per frequency.
