Condemning the illegitimate working style

Politics

Representatives of 7 NGOs today issued a statement:

"On February 18, a political persecution began against the National Assembly's oppositionist MP Zaruhi Postanjyan's brother Tigran Postanjyan, who was informed about the persecution from an unofficial source and the website of the RA Prosecutor General Office. Four days later, he was arrested by the RA National Security Service, which, according to RA legislation on criminal procedure, is not the body to lead an investigation into the act that Postanjyan is charged with.

T. Postanjyan was kept at the cell for temporary maintenance at the RA National Security Service and was transferred to Nubarashen Penitentiary several days later. In this period, he has been illegally prohibited from seeing his lawyer and NA deputies. On February 23, the court upheld the petition presented by the National Security Service's investigation and took the decision to choose arrest as a precautionary measure for T. Postanjyan.

The facts regarding the criminal persecution through improper procedures and psychologically pressuring him spark doubts that those steps are aimed at impeding his sister Zaruhi Postanjyan's public and political activities for a free and democratic Armenia.
We the undersigned organizations condemn the Armenian authorities' illegitimate working style. We demand that the authorities immediately put an end to the illegal actions against T. Postanjyan and refrain from directly and indirectly pressuring individuals or their relatives who are oppositionists."
