3 years since “March 1”
The first day of spring brings back sad memories for many citizens of Armenia.
On the first day of spring in 2008, police officers attacked peaceful demonstrators at Opera Square and brutally dispersed them. But the day ended with 10 victims and over 200 injured, followed by the declaration of a 20-day state of emergency that set limits on civil rights.
Three years after the tragedy of March 1, nobody has been charged for the murders. Nobody has responded to the question of who gave the command and why 10 innocent victims were killed.
Today at 17:00 the Armenian National Congress has organized a rally near the Matenadaran in memory of the victims of "March 1".
