On February 28, the Helsinki Association will present a report on the human rights situation in Armenia.

The two-volume report focuses on issues related to mass media, freedom of speech, human rights advocates, peaceful gatherings, freedom of conscience and religion, torture and ill-treatment.

The second volume summarizes the results of a monitoring conducted in Armenian courts, penitentiary institutions and psychiatric facilities.

The report includes an appendix on the case of Vahan Khalafyan, who died at Charentsavan police department in yet unknown circumstances on April 13, 2010.

Khalafyan reportedly committed suicide after being subjected to torture by policemen. However, human rights' defenders and the deceased's relatives insist that Khalafyan was killed.
