Armenia marks Mother Language Day on February 21.
President Serzh Sargsyan has issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of Mother Language Day.

"It is the sixth year Armenia officially celebrates Mother Language Day, which is another occasion to address the issues of preservation and development of our language.

Each country is strong with its roots, language, faith and culture, which are the real standard-bearers of the nation's history, identity and dignity.

The role of language is of vital importance which is a guarantee for a nation's survival, anchor of its vitality and shield of its identity.

To depart from the Armenian language means to move away from the roots of the Armenian people and to become an outcast deprived of one's homeland.

Today we remind ourselves that the Armenian language and Armenian education should predominate in our homes. Armenian youth should deify the Armenian language and subordinate other languages to their Mother Tongue.

I congratulate all of us on Mother Language Day. Let us glorify and beautify our language remaining faithful to our roots and history. Let us be worthy successors to our ancestors," reads the message.
