Kocharyan is obliged to check party lists
Democratic Liberal Party (HRAK) and Constitutional Rights Union (SIM) will act independently at the next parliamentary elections, HRAK and SIM leaders told a press conference on February 14.
SIM leader Hayk Babukhanyan said that the decision was conditioned by the party's high rating. "Recent opinion polls prove the party, currently the 6th in popularity, stands a real chance to enter the parliament," Babukhanyan said.
"W have real chances to be elected though I do not exclude the possibility of allying with some other party," said Babukhanyan
HRAK leader expressed dissatisfaction over the level of liberalism of Armenian politics.
"We have seen liberalism in recent 20 years, which, however, lacked in democracy. If the need for liberal ideas becomes expedient in the society, we shall run in the elections separately. In the opposite case, we might think of forming an alliance," said Antinyan.
The party will make a final decision in 2012.
Speaking about the possible developments in the political arena, Edward Antinyan said that the Armenian National Congress (HAK) will benefit from the difference between the Republican Party (HHK) and Prosperous Armenian Party (BHK).
"HHK does not possess enough resources to solve all the problems in the country; therefore the party will seek alliance with other forces. The opposition can be represented in the parliament only in case the two coalition forces run for Parliament separately," he said.
"Only if the political palette is enriched with new ideas and youth representatives, will Armenia witness progress," said Babukhanyan.
Commenting on Robert Kocahryan's statement that the HHK list was submitted to him for approval, Hayk Babukhanyan said, "As the head of the country who has gained the support of concrete political parties, Kocharyan was obliged to form the skeleton of the coalition. I am convinced that the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun has also agreed its list with Kocharyan."
