“Egyptian and Armenian authorities used the same methods”
Armenia's ex-Foreign Minister Alexander Arzumanyan believes that that the revolutionary wave in Egypt may entail serious transformations in the Middle East - Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. He does not exclude that new countries will emerge in the future with new borders.
"The coup attempt in Egypt is a kind of catalyzer that can lead to the formation of Free Kurdistan. This is the beginning of a major process, and everything depends on the outcome of Egyptian unrest," he said.
Alexander Arzumanyan praised the Middle East countries' initiatives to stage mass protests saying the slogans "Honor", "Freedom" and "Dignity" can work in Armenia as well.
"The revolutionary wave will reach Armenia one day. If people have gone to street to topple a tyrant like Mubarak, it is much easier to get rid of the authorities in a small country like Armenia," Arzumanyan said.
Drawing parallels between Egyptian and Armenian anti-government protests, Armenia's former FM said the protests in both countries were spontaneous.
"Another similarity is that the authorities in the two countries used similar methods to subdue the revolts. Armenian authorities used skinheads, provocateurs and bodyguards while Egyptian leadership sent horses and camels to silence demonstrators. Unlike Egypt, the army was also involved in the clashes in Armenia," he said.
Alexander Arzumanyan today dismissed press reports that he was at variance with Armenian National Congress Leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
"I have no disagreements with anyone. If I had any, I would say it openly, as I used to do," he said.
Speaking about the restoration of PACE Subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh, Mr. Arzumanyan said, "If OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs were discontent with the re-formation of the PACE Subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh, they should have voiced their concerns at PACE and hinder the re-establishment of the subcommittee."
