Scores of women held a protest outside the office of the Prosecutor General, holding the portrait of a 20-year-old woman, who died as a result of domestic violence.

They urged the judicial body to conduct a fair trial. The women say the case should be kept in the spotlight to exclude its repetition in the future.

"The news about Zaruhi's death was appalling. We call on the relevant bodies to bring in a fair verdict," Susanna Vardanyan, Director of Women's Rights Center NGO, told A1+.

Mrs. Vardanyan says that one quarter of Armenia women are subjected to psychological and physical violence in their homes.

Zaruhi Petrosyan was beaten to death by her husband and mother-in-law on October 01, 2010

Zaruhi's husband Yanis Sarkisov was arrested in summer, 2010. A criminal case has been launched against him under charges of Article 112 of Armenia's Criminal Code (infliction of willful heavy damage to health with particular cruelty).
