Teachers and pupils of Yerevan Special School #18 today held a protest action outside the Government building urging the executive body not to unite the school with "Pokr Mher" educational complex.

Chanting "Do not deprive our children of normal childhood," "School #18 protects the educational right of its pupils," the protesters argued that the unification will leave the whole staff jobless.

"Under the regulations of "Pokr Mher," the complex can recruit teachers who have worked in the armed forces for five years. Alternatively, you must have a title of major or captain to work in the centre," said protester David Asatryan.

According to the protesters, about 80% of their pupils do not meet the complex requirements. Pupils with behavioral abnormalities and deviations study in the school.

At the same time, traders importing nonfood items gathered in front of the government demanding a meeting with the Prime Minister. They stated that customs fees had suddenly been doubled - from $4 to $8 per kilo for imports from Turkey.
