CoE Bureau restores subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh
On January 28, the CoE Bureau voted for restoration of the PACE subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh, despite the mounting protests of the Armenian delegation.
Spanish parliamentarian, member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Jordi Xucla i Costa was appointed as chairman of the subcommittee.
"As it was expected, PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu forced the adoption of the decision on restoration of the subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh. The CoE Bureau de jure approved restoration of the subcommittee.
Azerbaijan has expressed distrust of the Minsk group and is trying to settle the Karabakh issue within the framework of other structures -UN or the Council of Europe," member of the Armenian delegation to the PACE Naira Zohrabyan told A1+.
Zohrabyan noted that all members of the Bureau voted for restoration of the subcommittee, except for the Armenian delegation.
"I was surprised at the behaviour of French deputy Jean-Claude Mignon. Yesterday he told me that the Karabakh conflict could be settled solely in the Minsk group format. Today, Mignon did not utter a word. I want France to know that Mr. Mignon does not represent the country's stance in international structures," Zohrabyan said.
