The Armenian National Congress (HAK) is going to start a series of rallies to raise the issue of country's socio-economic situation, HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan told a news conference on January 28.

The first rally is scheduled for February 18 at Liberty Square.

The situation in the country reminds the HAK representative of the war period when aggravated social conditions ripened into a rebellion.

"We are all witnessing deterioration of social conditions in Armenia. The only way to save the situation is to make radical changes which the acting regime is unwilling to do," said Levon Zurabyan.

He explains the grave situation in the country by the linkage of illegitimate authorities and oligarchs.

"The authorities cannot cut down the branch that is feeding them; therefore they help oligarchs who are mushrooming in the country."

Asked to comment on Serzh Sargsyan's interview to Echo of Moscow" radio station, the HAK representative said, "It was an interview at provincial level and is not worth commenting."
