New railway to be built
The government gave consent to the preliminary Vanadzor-Fioletovo railway project. Government agencies and heads of the respective communities have been assigned to study and present a proposal on making a necessary change in the category of lands located in Vanadzor and Fioletovo, providing necessary conditions for railway exploitation and recognizing other persons' properties as supreme public interest a month after providing technical and economic grounds for railway construction.
The construction of the new railway is of great strategic and economic significance for Armenia. The 31.2 km long railway will allow the unification of the Aghstafa-Ijevan-Hrazdan-Yerevan and the Tbilisi-Gyumri-Masis railways, as well as reduce the distance and cost of transfers between provinces and nationwide.
The government has allocated 4,022,066.0 drams to the National Security Service adjunct to the RA Government to pay the "South Caucasus Railways" CJSC for interstate arms transfers via the railway, service at railroad stations and compensating the costs for services.
