Hammarberg’s eyes filled with tears as he heard relatives of March 1 victims
On January 18, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg met the relatives of the citizens killed in March 1, 2008 events to discuss the revelation of the murders.
"At the request of the CoE official, Attorney Vahe Grigoryan detailed on the trials in Armenia courts," Alla Hovhannisyan, the mother of victim Tigran Khachatryan, told A1+.
During the one-hour conversation, the relatives presented their concerns and complained of ill-treatment in Armenian courts.
"I told Mr. Hammarberg that I had been forced off the courtroom with my son's photo in my hand. Judge Gayane Karakhanyan ruled that I was addressing deliberate questions and asked me out of the courtroom after I ainquired whether my son's right to life had been violated or not on March 1. The judge executed the order of the ruling regime. I directly went to the Ombudsman's Office to call his attention to the incident but Armen Harutyunyan said he did not interfere in legal proceedings," said Alla Hovhannisyan.
Gor Kloyan's father was displeased with the report of the National Assembly's ad hoc committee looking into the events of March 1.
"It was a shameful report. I told Mr. Hammarberg that on March 1, 2008, I stood near Nikol Pashinyan at Myasnikyan Statue and heard Nikol calling the demonstrators to order. Mr. Hammarberg took a keen interest in my story. I also told him how severely the riot police treated the demonstrators," said Sargis Kloyan.
The CoE official said his report would be presented in the spring session of the Parlaimentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
"We believe that Mr. Hammarberg will present an unbiased report. When the mothers told Hammarberg about the murders of their sons, tears appeared in his eyes," said Sargis Kloyan.
