Heritage parliamentary group has issued a statement slamming the NCTR decision to deny A1+ and GALA broadcasting licenses.

Contrary to the calls of international community and Armenian society, the authorities refused to give a broadcast license to A1+, an independent TV station that was controversially pulled off the air in 2002.

Moreover, another independent television station based in the city of Gyumri lost a government-administered tender for a new broadcasting license on December 23.

The government's recent pledges to amend different sectors and intensify the combat against corruption are false and untrue. The restriction of the freedom of expression shows that the regime has not learnt lessons from the deadly events of March 1, 2008, and the consequences of the global economic crisis.

Free media are the most influential tools allowing people to keep abreast with the country's events and supervise government's activities, at the same time exercising their constitutional right.

Heritage is determined to continue its struggle for the restoration of freedom of speech and make the authorities review thier illegal decision.
