Calling on Europe
The European Churches Conference and the Commission of Churches on Migrants in Europe convened a forum on "The reaction of European churches to migration 2010: achievements, challenges and perspectives of the future" in Vienna.
Participating in the forum were representatives from over 20 European countries. Representing the Armenian Apostolic Church at the forum was Priest, Father Paruyr Avetisyan with the blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
Reports were presented and discussions were held on the issues facing migrants who have taken refuge in Europe, protection of rights, integration into society, nationalism and an end to discrimination. The forum adopted a resolution calling on Europe to defend migrants' human rights and condemn the discrimination and violence against them on the grounds of nationalism.
